This will be a night of firsts for the Kalamazoo roller derby scene. The junior roller derby team, the Killer Beez will have their first home bout to kick off the evening. The under-18 league will take on the The Darlings of Destruction from Rochester Hills, MI at 5 p.m. They’ve bouted in the past and have made quite an impression on the home crowd with exhibitions during halftimes of the Killamazoo Derby Darlin games. Though they be but small, they are mighty mighty!
Next up will be the Killamazoo Derby Darlins B-team, the Killa Crew facing off against Michigan rivals, the Battle Creek Cereal Killers. The Killers have yet to win a bout over the Killa Crew so this bout is sure to be very fierce and fast-paced. The Killers have recently been accepted in to the WFTDA apprenticeship program and are improving their game week by week. The Killa Crew will be ready to employ tight strategy and big hits on the Cereal Killers.
Finally, the year-old Kalamazoo Men’s Roller Derby team will make their bouting debut against the Pack Men of London, Ontario. KMRD is one of the few men’s leagues in Michigan and they’ve been working toward their first bout with intense practices and even a GoFundMe campaign. Their’s is truly a grassroots effort – you won’t want to miss seeing all of their hard work come to fruition.
